2 Hours Of Bleach Next Week!

Ξ March 29th, 2006 | → 0 Comments | ∇ |

After a double episode this week, we’re getting a quadruple bundle next week! That’s longer than most anime movies! Gonna have to set aside some popcorn and a comfy chair for that one.

On another anime note: I would honestly sell bodily organs for one of these:

Anyone need a kidney, a lung, half a liver, arm, leg, eye? No wait.. I need that for the pictures.
Screw normal art, when I get a place of my own and money to buy stuff like this Im so going to adorn the walls with fantastic, interesting and beautiful anime pictures. Or, I could somehow blag a job at Production IG and befriend one of the artists.
Shifting my organs somehow seems a lot more likely.

Credit goes to dannychoo.com for the pics. It’s probably best to right click and view in a new window because they’re auto resized.

Anyone Want To Do A Techcast?

Ξ March 27th, 2006 | → 0 Comments | ∇ |

I have a lot to say, that goes without saying. And I know others have a fair amount to say as well, so, instead of the non-real time psudeo conversation we have on forums how about a real time conversation about tech, enthusiast stylee. Something cynical, hardcore edged, no BS, market and trend analysis sorta thing.

I listen to TWiT reguarly and it’s good, but they aren’t techy enough. They’re web guys at best, but they lack the enthusiast edge Im dying for. It’s too mainstream and cute without the bite: “Macified” if you will.
It could be entirely crap, or, pretty fun. I don’t know. Getting together people who’ve never heard each other before, are completely unknown outside of their net-community (netumity?) doesn’t inspire relms of confidence, but I like to try everything once ;)

Comments Dont Work, Sorry.

I get emails and can read the comments, but it seems there’s a php fault in my theme I have to fix. I will sort it out later.

Edit: Fixed them.

The Internet Of Old Versus The Internet Of New

Ξ March 26th, 2006 | → 0 Comments | ∇ |

It seems every so often the internet goes to shit and everyone hates it. They hate the same old websites, same old threads, same old questions, same old everything. To make matters worse an influx of newbie’s just propagates the stigma of the above and incites people to want to go, “for the love of god SHUT THE HELL UP! Don’t you know how to search the net??” I’ve been on the brink of it myself, and indeed, it’s been noticed that some people are actually actively pursuing it. It used to be the case that the trickle of newbie’s could be handled and that repetitive questions got intermingled with the normal conversations, but as things get bigger and the internet gets smaller the scales have tipped and now everyone has read everything before and new was a term for yesterday. That’s why people users see “the state of big forums going down hill”. There seems to be a golden size; where there is enough people to post and keep it interesting, yet, not too big that it ends up as a free for all or a totalitarian stronghold. But what do you do? Adapt as you grow? Is change all bad? Surely saying that you want so-and-so back from the past and “to be how it was is like” is like asking for some sort of time travel divine paradox. You can reminisce about the “good old days” all the hell you want but if you’re looking back you’re not going forward, and yet, these same people are happy to moan and whinge, yet not want to try to change the way the posts go or find some unique content to start as threads. “The community is gone”: you are the community.

The effort is there to change it to good, to keep wanting to make where we live our home. But as underground turns to popular, turns to mass movement it seems if you can’t shout loud enough to keep yourself being heard people don’t tend to bother.

But then it’s as good as it’s managed. This is where the shit hits the fan for me cause despite knowing the people at the top and thinking they fantastic guys, there’s still stuff that irritates (not only me). It feels hard to criticise considering you know how much work is being done by them, but then, if no one says anything nothing ever changes. Playing devil’s avocet isn’t entirely fun and you’re always reaching for the right words. The last thing you want is to be voicing your concerns and your adversaries pick up on the transmission. Showing your family problems to the community is never an acceptable option, especially if it affects where you live.

However;

Is it really good that some staff take a stance where by remaining professional is keeping out of the inner forums? After all Bit was build from the community. And there are just so many levels of bureaucracy that no one outside the core knows what the hell is going on at the best of times: Core gets one lot, outside staff get another, mods get another and everyone else gets “an official statement” or, just a change when it happens. Then suddenly everyone is happy again for another 6 months the forums kind of regain a sense of normality. I used to think there was a reason for this and just not to ask about it, but it appears that here is actually quite unique to the way things are done.

It means the mods can’t do their job because we don’t know what to say, if we should say anything and if we did, is it right? SHOULD we say anything? Does posting something in one level of forum mean it’s read in another? Or listened to? Do we say anything or hope people higher up are doing their thing and keep stum? Does it even matter what we say, being the middle-men? We’re important enough to keep things running, yet, only about slightly higher up in the virtual social rankings than normies. We hold our first line of defence, which some on the inside can’t even see, and wonder why. Knocking on the walls conversation can pass through but no one can see each other. Questions are asked, why? but no one asks for fear of the reply for the respected people upstairs. “There must be a reason, surely?” the murmurs faintly vibrate through.

Logic depicts that classified information is labelled classified for a reason. That’s understandable. Blood oaths are sworn and fingerprints are taken so as the information is controlled at all times. That’s the business. But for some of us that have seen this information time and again, have been invited upstairs for chat and a cuppa, yet are then resided to standing outside again in line, what-ever level that may be, it does become disconcerting.

The effort and passion is there, I sure as hell know that because I’ve seen it. It’s just being mothered. Like a child who’s big enough to go out on their own and talk and play with other kids. Some people are allowed in, to play, but only a few at a time because the house is only so big and they need to be kept an eye on.
I couldn’t find the virtual suggestion box, you see.

Tool, Live, In London.

Ξ March 25th, 2006 | → 0 Comments | ∇ |

Can I get a “Hell Yea!” Cause a mate of mine just phoned and said he was buying tickets for Tool on 14th June in London and wondered if I wanted one as well. “Is the Pope Catholic?” I swear I would have paid twice the price cause Ive been wanting to see them since I was 16. That’s 7 years of patient waiting til I had the holy combo of; a car for transport cause noone we know lives in London, money to do it and that it wasnt during exams. Now most of us have finished Uni this isnt all isnt a problem and things have finally come together. 8 minute tracks of the best damn progressive metal there is! Last summer I got to see NIN after an equally long wait and it was a fantastic gig, so hopefully this one will be just as good.
Damn, so much for sleeping, Im like a kid on coke (both kinds).

Bit-Tech PS3 Preview
So, the low down is that instead of previously attempting to screw everyone over, again, they’ve finally listened and have moved to change their whole PS3 outlook (or was that their intention all along? *conspiricy theory alert!*)

So, now we have a complete U-turn on many things:

  • Full PSOne and PS2 backwards compatibility
  • Full Blu-ray support
  • Displays: legacy Standard Definition (SD) to full 1080p HD
  • Latest HDMI
  • Broadband network connection
  • Wireless connection
  • Hard drive
  • Redesigned Controller
  • Simultainious Worldwide Console Release
  • Region Free Games on Blu-Ray

Where previously there was virtually none or unconfirmed of the above, we now have a decent sized harddisk with linux for all your media, and SDTV support as well as Region Free games so no more grey imports or mod chipping (unless you can’t afford £50 games after a $500-800 console/computer/HTPC), and a simultainious worldwide release which I think is fantastic. No more of us EU folk getting the pointy end of a very long stick for half a year then getting sued cause we imported a console or a game from Hong Kong. I really really hope they score on the new controller design as well, cause I CANT STAND the old controllers. They must be great for the Japanese and kids with weeny hands but my big caucasian adult hands just end up crippled after an hours gameplay. If that works out I may try and sell a half a lung to fund it, afterall, I’d need both my kidneys more than my lungs for sitting on the sofa for endless hours playing 12 years of back catalouge and drinking endless quantities of caffinated beverages.

Thanks to Geoff at Bit for half the list Ive blatently ripped from his news post ;)

Futurama Not So So

Ξ March 20th, 2006 | → 0 Comments | ∇ |

It was somehow too good to be true. First, Family Guy and now Futurama, but alas it’s not to be the case:

Posted: 19 March 2006 at 3:35pm

Guys,
I’m sorry I gave inaccurate info on the cartoon.I was told on one end that the TV show was a go but DXC enlightened me (with a hammer) that this was not the case.I think there is a Futurama project as in DVD’s but I appearently had bad info. But I do live to give good Futurama news to people. So I must’ve died or something.

All eyes on the skies,

Billy

It’s cool, Billy, we forgive you. I s’pose at least there’s going to be DVDs.

Thanks to IanW from Bit for the heads up.

Macbreak video of XP on a Mactel

http://twit.tv/mb4

Sweet jebus could they find people who knew less about a computer? And a co-host that’s any more stereotypical, even down to his voice.

How do these people get jobs like this? Surely they could have done another take, or at least thought it out a bit better? It was 10 minutes of “Go check the forums for updates, it does work look at this I can run a card game”. When they finally do get around to the nitty gritty and go and look in the drivers to see what it does and what it doesn’t yet do, they still don’t characterise it fully. And the last statement after stating at least half a dozen times that there are no video drivers he asks for a Doom 3 disk. So, it’s not only running without video acceleration but it’s an intel onboard GMA which won’t run Doom anyway.
And then they go encoding it for an ipod.. so it’s 44meg and only 270pixels wide. Ok, maybe Im just expecting too much, but there are sites that have less money and less swanky-pants equipment, yet, produce better quality stuff.

I love TWiT stuff, I listen to the podcast whenever I get a chance but this.. this just isn’t worth the wasted time.

A new series of Futurama due!

Ξ March 19th, 2006 | → 0 Comments | ∇ |

Quoted from Billy Wests own forums:

And the other good news is that they’re doing 26 new episodes of ”Futurama” for TV and we’re hammering out the deal now. The original plan was to have the DVD’s first but that’s no longer the case.

So, I know this was sort of confirmed a few months ago when they said they were getting the VA’s back in it again, but this is straight from the horses mouth (so to speak), so it’s definately-definately happening in 2007.

I literally cannot wait.

Perfect In-Car Listening

Ξ March 18th, 2006 | → 0 Comments | ∇ |

I bought some Bare Knuckle soundtracks from the States off Ebay, and whilst they weren’t cheap and disappointingly, not original disks, I don’t really care because you can’t buy them anymore since the record label died and they’re worth it just to hear them old skool tunes from when I was a kid. Turn them up and they make great in car tunes. I think it’s the fact that because I’m in the act of controlling something, with the music in the background makes me feel like I’m sitting in my mates’ front room aged 12, hammering his mega drive controller for hours on end.

Bare Knuckle Soundtrack 1

The problem is the tracks are 2-3 minutes long and fade out at the very end, not “finish”. Now electro-dance isn’t typically my main “listen to” genre, but I’m pretty damn sure these aren’t the full-full tracks. Maybe I should try and track down Yuzo Kashiro (through some feat of divine intervention) and beg him for the full raws. Even so, they aren’t game rips, because I have those and they are twice the length of them AND the disks contain extra 4 bonus tracks.

I also bought the Wolf’s Rain uber limited edition box set from the States and it arrived having suffered a 300 story fall. Either that or some postie decided to brush up on his football skills with it. I’ll admit it’s a good hand/foot size to throw or kick, but why my special edition? To add insult to injury, Royal Mail charged me £11 for import tax.

The box is partially crushed and ripped and one of the disks came out of it’s holder and is scratched beyond readability. Hopefully I can get some sort of replacement, but, you never know if the people on the other end are going to be some tree hugging, church going, friendly and kind family business: the ones that make you feel bad for worrying them so much after mentioning something is wrong. Either this or a bunch of chavs that will *delightfully* inform me where I can forcibly insert said disks and attempt to procreate with myself whilst colourfully using swear words as verbs, adjectives AND nouns.
