Bit-Tech PS3 Preview
So, the low down is that instead of previously attempting to screw everyone over, again, they’ve finally listened and have moved to change their whole PS3 outlook (or was that their intention all along? *conspiricy theory alert!*)

So, now we have a complete U-turn on many things:

  • Full PSOne and PS2 backwards compatibility
  • Full Blu-ray support
  • Displays: legacy Standard Definition (SD) to full 1080p HD
  • Latest HDMI
  • Broadband network connection
  • Wireless connection
  • Hard drive
  • Redesigned Controller
  • Simultainious Worldwide Console Release
  • Region Free Games on Blu-Ray

Where previously there was virtually none or unconfirmed of the above, we now have a decent sized harddisk with linux for all your media, and SDTV support as well as Region Free games so no more grey imports or mod chipping (unless you can’t afford £50 games after a $500-800 console/computer/HTPC), and a simultainious worldwide release which I think is fantastic. No more of us EU folk getting the pointy end of a very long stick for half a year then getting sued cause we imported a console or a game from Hong Kong. I really really hope they score on the new controller design as well, cause I CANT STAND the old controllers. They must be great for the Japanese and kids with weeny hands but my big caucasian adult hands just end up crippled after an hours gameplay. If that works out I may try and sell a half a lung to fund it, afterall, I’d need both my kidneys more than my lungs for sitting on the sofa for endless hours playing 12 years of back catalouge and drinking endless quantities of caffinated beverages.

Thanks to Geoff at Bit for half the list Ive blatently ripped from his news post ;)
